PACIFIC ZEN INSTITUTE
Koan meditation is a way of showing up for your own life. You sit or work or talk and don’t add anything to it. You don’t criticize anything your mind offers. You don’t need to assess or improve the moment. And if you are criticizing the moment or your own state of mind, you don’t criticize that. In that way compassion appears. That way you show up for your own life.
DEAD GENTLEMEN PRODUCTIONS
We are a group of filmmakers located in the Seattle/Tacoma area of the Pacific Northwest. We make geeks laugh.
Erik is an Artist and an Educator working primarily with glass. "When I make glass I begin to work, not with the substance of glass taken for granted as we use it day by day, but with the potential contained within it. To emphasize this phenomenon; I contrast the processes of glass, which is itself a contrast in states of being. Liquid and fluid when it is hot, it remains liquid when it has cooled and has achieved the illusion of static form. Light, color, and form come together in the work, in the final, fluid stasis of cold glass. I design forms (vases) relating to the natural world, to nature. The light (life) within the glass is celebrated. Technique and shape create utilitarian form, but light gives it life."
Dr. Christopher Phillips/Democracy Cafe
From his acclaimed popular yet scholarly works Constitution Cafe: Jefferson’s Brew for a True Revolution, to his philosophy bestsellers like Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy and Six Questions of Socrates: A Modern Day Journey of Discovery through World Philosophy, Phillips is a noted author of works for both adults and children. He blends in timeless philosophical meditations as he recounts his travels across the globe, launching everything from philosophical discussion groups to mini-Constitutional Conventions, designed to stimulate inquiry and forge bonds among diverse participants. These conversations reveal surprising points of intersection between classical philosophy, modern life, and the intellectual richness of societies far removed from Western philosophical tradition.
IAN PERRY WALKER
Ian creates pieces that are emotionally compelling, vivid, and engaging. Not easily confined to the conventions of genre, he has created works that fuse elements of popular and art ("classical") music, as well as elements of experimental performance art and sound poetry. His love of language, story, and poetry is strongly evident in his work.

Mara Lynn Johnstone
Mara grew up in a house on a hill, of which the top floor was built first. She split her time between climbing trees, drawing fantastical things, reading books, and writing her own. Always interested in fiction, she went on to get a Master's Degree in creative writing, and to acquire a husband, son, and two cats. She still writes, draws, reads, and enjoys climbing things. She also has been known to make and wear costumes given any excuse, and to thoroughly enjoy life.
